WelcomeG'day and welcome to the first edition of Maxys Media Report - a focus on Australian Digital Media, Innovation, Internet Marketing and featuring our very cool and effective transparent video overlay technology for your website called CLIVE It reminds me personally of October 1987 when we had the last big crash, I was just a 21 year old kid working in the Investment division of Kerry Packers Cons Press. (He sold most of his stock just before the crash but was straight back in there buying up big). The same factors can be applied today. Many buyers will retreat and wait to see what happens. Others will see the current market flux as an opportunity to increase market share - to buy low. How much lower the market will go is the million dollar question - it's all just a matter of timing. Irrespective, in today's Internet and technology driven world it is far riskier to do nothing. For advertisers looking to spend money then customer attention will still be of limited supply - campaigns will still need to stand out to get attention. There will be increased interest for online advertising and websites will need to be more engaging (another plug for CLIVE). In each issue we'll showcase some cool campaigns and also give you the heads up on some of the latest developments around the globe. As Internet Marketing guru Seth Godin writes in his new book Tribes - like a rock band smart businesses create tribes, groups and communities around their brands, products and services - Apple, Harley Davidson.....your favourite coffee shop - the power of word of mouth combined with the Internet and local networks to share information. Loyal branded customers generating word of mouth which influences others. (I reckon a dozen people in the last week have told me they are buying an Apple next time - very powerful trends!) When the dust settles we will see innovation and creativity emerge to drive long term competitive advantage. A smarter, more tech savvy, creative and innovative Australia will increase our global competitiveness in the tough times ahead. PS A very sincere thank you to the many kind wishes following the sudden death of my dad, best mate and mentor last year. It's those life changing events that make you take stock of what's important and realise that life is very precious and to enjoy what you do. |
