About Scott

42 year old Scott was born and bred in the Sutherland Shire "The Shire", south of Sydney Australia.

He is a surfer, writer, photographer, musician, tragic NRL Cronulla Sharks supporter (as are all Sharks supporters [never won a competition in 41 years but who is counting]) and a very skilled online marketeer and entrepreneur.

He has been heavily involved with personal computers since his very early teens - nearly thirty years ago - about the same time he started photography and surfing.

An Interesting Adventure

In the mid 1980's Scott began his business career following his father Peter into finance with Kerry Packers' Consolidated Press - Australia's richest man and media mogul - owner of the Nine Network and Australian Consolidated Press.  He was there the day Kerry sold Channel Nine to Bondie for a billion only to buy it back a few years later at a fraction for what he sold it. "It was a fantastic grounding for any kid, I was exposed to the best in the business" says Scott.

After a few years it was time to leave the Packer fold and he moved into the rapidly expanding personal computer industry with ComputerLand, the world's fasting growing computer reseller.  Within a couple of years he was National IBM Product Marketing Manager, "I saw a bloke build a business from around $25m to over $150m in less than three years, it was an amazing place to work, we were there at the beginning of the real computer expansion period - as computers moved from standalone islands of information towards corporate Local Area Networks (LANS)"

In the early 1990's, he took off to the US and UK to explore new "multimedia computing" and ended up in London where he teamed up with a Scottish entrepreneur and launched an advertising industry creative directory of the UK leading creative talent - models, photographers, designers etc onto CD-ROM.  That business was sold to a major publishing company in less than eighteen months.

While in the UK he fell in love with the community nature of the local pubs and on returning to Australia started looking for a pub.

After a couple of years of consulting work to corporate and government on new media and a stint with Telsta, the Maxy family took over management of the Intersection Tavern at Ramsgate, south of Sydney and  Australia's in 1996.  Australia's first cyberpub - this website www.maxys.com.au was launched.

It took over eighteen months to turn the business around and for it to become overnight successful!  This was achieved by focusing on simple customer service, creating community and building a great place for people to work and play so they'd tell their friends.  "As a marketer, this was face to face with the public, every day - you can't learn that experience in a classroom"

In November 1999 the hotel freehold was sold and in April 2000, Scott and his father Peter launched BANGitUP.com, an internet portal for the $141b Australian Building and Construction Industry.  Over the next seven years BANGitUP grew to over 75,000 builders and trades listed; 1,000 suppliers and 17,000 online customers.

In July 2007, Scott's dad and greatest mentor, Peter suddenly died in a boating accident at  Iluka, on the NSW Northern Rivers.  Soon after Scott resigned and the business sold.

The lessons "too numerous" he says.

After a break in January 2008 Scott began consulting to RidgeFilms to build their corporate video production business.  By June 2008 they ranked #1 on Google for Corporate Video Production Sydney and are now positioned as leaders in Internet Video Production.

In July 2008, on the Anniversary of Pete's passing away, the new maxys website was launched featuring Maxys  CLIVE "personalise the web" video technology.

In October 2008, the CLIVEvideo website was launched to break apart production from Maxys Creative Services.

Scott and Maxys provide Digital Media Strategy and Internet Marketing Services to all businesses and government and is publisher of Maxys MECA (Media - Entertainment - Creative - Entertainment) Directory to be launched soon.
